Richie Hayes "The Voice" visits St. Stephen's:
Local celebrity Richie Hayes, a past pupil of our own school, came back with a bang on Friday, March 9th! Richie came in to a thunderous ovation as the whole school gathered in the yard while Richie belted out the Michael Bublé hit, "Home". Richie spoke about his days in St. Stephen's and recalled with affection his teachers over the years, before inviting four boys to perform for the school. Check out the photos from Richie's visit by clicking here.

Drama with Little Red Kettle:
The annual visit of Red Kettle to our school is always eagerly anticipated - this year was no exception! "Curiosity Did Not Kill The Cat" was the title of this year's production and you can now see photos from its presentation by clicking here.

School Choir:
The School Choir, which is ably trained and conducted by Mrs. Quinn, sings at all school occasions. The choir adds a beautiful atmosphere to the presentation of the Sacraments, at Sacrament of Penance, First Holy Communion and Confirmation ceremonies. The choir also adds to the ambience each May when we celebrate the feast of our Founder, St. John Baptist De La Salle, with a special celebration of Mass in honour of the Patron Saint of Teachers.  In addition, each December the choir lead the school in our annual Christmas Carol Service at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity. It is always a highlight in the school calendar and an uplifting experience in the height of the festive season. The choir are a credit to themselves, their families and to all the hard work put in by Mrs Quinn all year round in preparing the boys.

Music And Dance:

Music is a vibrant part of St. Stephen’s Curriculum. In a few short years we have made great progress in fostering a love of and appreciation of music in the school.
All boys learn to play the recorder from First Class and these lessons are continued to the end of Sixth Class.

The boys have had lessons in Irish Dancing for the last number of years. This has been a great success with boys and teachers from Junior Infants upwards. For 2010/2011, we will continue to explore creative dance, or to be more specific, hip-hop dance!

Also on our music agenda is drumming. We all love this! Drumming coaches from Rhythm and Shakes visit our school each year and teach us drumming. We then have a performance at the end of the lessons. These performances are enjoyed by pupils, teachers and parents alike!

Parent’s Association:
St. Stephen’s is very lucky to have a very active Parent’s Association. The school is indebted to all of the members who work on the school’s behalf. The Association fundraises by means of Cake Sales and Raffles. All the proceeds are used to benefit the school. Each year the Association also generously sponsors and supervises a party for all the boys who make their First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Chess:
After lessons have finished at 2:30, we have chess lessons and games in the school. It is a very challenging but fun activity which we really enjoy. It takes a lot of concentration to play chess! Advanced chess club takes place on Mondays, while the beginners take to the board on Tuesdays. If you'd like to join up, you're very welcome. Ask your teacher for more details.

 Adult Courses:
These are run by the school and parents committee each year. We offer a wide range of courses like Computers, Art, Flower Arranging, Decoupage and Parenting courses. Ask Mrs. Mulvaney, our Home School Liaison Officer, for more details. You can find out how to contact Mrs Mulvaney by visiting our special Home School Liaison page.
